Hi all. I am keen to ride the Canning Stock Route in early August 2011. I plan to start from Halls Creek around the 1st to the 5th of August and to head to Kalgoorlie. I will be taking my KTM 640adv. I`m just looking for some interested people to travel with. I plan to take about 7 days to complete the trip.

Sounds like fun Andrew,

Might be a silly question but how will you carry all your fuel? Saddlebags or fuel drops or other?

Good luck!!!

Cheers

Think you might need a touch more than 7 days...

Hi

~2,000km in 7 days - very achievable on a M/C. Possible even in a car. Wouldnt be rated by some as "fun" though:)

Fuel - different story. Obviously a plan is in place.

Cheers

7 days, 8 hours of riding per day, gives you 56 hours to complete 2000km. That's an average of 35.7km/h.
Quite achievable for a good confident rider on a well prepared bike.

A well built bike or 4wd can sustain 100km/h average on the canning, making the trip possible in 24 hours.

Dan - you've gotta be dreaming. "A well built bike or 4wd can sustain 100km/h average on the canning..."

At the pace you will be travelling, I hope you keep an eye open for us, we will be coming from the south departing Wiluna on July 13th.
We should be roughly at the top end early August.

See you on the track,

Geoff.

Be careful , we went up there 2 years ago with 2 bikes in tow. The problems they had was in the sandy areas they had to follow the wheel tracks and the sticks and overgrown bushes that are on the side of the track struck their bikes. In one case punctured a spare aluminium fuel tank that was attached one of the panniers. Not a trip to be taken lightly on a bike. They had to push their bikes up some of the dunes. One of the bikes was a KTM 650. or thereabouts.
