Members I have a 2007 Prado diesel behind which I tow a Coromal 5.35m tandem van. So far the
Dunlop Grantrek AT20's tyres have done 82,000 kilometres. Not bad, and in the next 5,000 km will require replacing. I was thinking of either Cooper AT's or Goodrich AT's or replacing with identical tyres although I hear that my original Jap dunlops are much better than ozzie ones, which wear out quickly.

I have a 2003 Prado diesel and tow a 17ft tandem van. When it comes to tyre replacement time I have also asked myself the same question. The
Dunlop Grandtreks have always given me at least 90,000 k's. They may not be suitable for heavy off-road use, but while they suit my requirements, I will stick to them.

I am on my 2nd set of Goodyear Silent Armor in my 07 Prado. Got 100k from the first set. Very happy with them - had them on dirt, sand mud etc.

Mick we have the Cooper ATR on SWMBO Jack, and can not wear them out, but because of the hard rubber compound are dodgy on wet tar. On my Jack I have bridgestone 694s which I think are a great tyre. Softer compound but superb on wet tar(lets face it our lives depend on this)and good off road. I will end up tossing the Coopers with 5mm of thread as they are just a bit to dodgy when its wet.
Cheers Pete

I too have had the Cooper ATR and experienced similar results, I sold them with 50% tread still on them and went for a softer compound.
Safety is more important to me than big klms and saving $$ out of tyres

To right Alby, on round abouts ate below av speeds the tail would just slide out. Now I know round abouts accumalate a build of rubber, but the fact remains I rear 694 are down to about5mm , and still feel safe.

I've had a good run out of Bridgestone 694's on two vehicles, however I didn't like the Silverstone tyres on the original.

Hi Mick
I have a 2005 Prado grande and fitted Bridestone 694 not LTs as with the air
suspension they give a better ride on the tar compared to the LTs and were abouft $50 each cheaper, good handling better than the
Dunlop Grand Craps.
I tow an 18ft 6 tandem caravan no trouble.
Regards
Ted

It is a bit of an all round bet hey, In the last ten years I have had a set of Goodyear Wrangler ATRs got 60K, next a set of Cooper ST's 85K and now on a set of mickey Thompson MTZ's about 60K. That is all good but the price? and have I used them to what they where designed ?????
So the most popular tyre I have seen on a lot of 4WD's has been the Maxxis MA-751 Bravo. If you can fit 225/245/265/75X16's you get a 10 ply with 3 ply side wall with a 123/120M rating, I was quoted $235 a tyre today.

Unfortunately 70 profile on the prado 17 inch rim makes it illegal. Maximum rolling diameter over standard (65 profile) is 15mm maximum.....................

Isuzumu, lol, getting there,if can you tell me if I can get this size in a muddy so I stay legal ?? Ill be real happy lol........BFG only do a 70 profile, same as a few other brands which puts the rolling diameter out to 28mm. so a 275 is what ?? wider then the 265 ?? Sorry not sure how these numbers work in sizes....Regards Steve

I have the BFG AT's in my Sahara. Like you I do some mild off road stuff - mainly dirt roads into my parent's property - sometimes a bit stick in the wet - and i tow a 23ft van. My current At's have 60k on them and are still (IMO) only half gone. My brother (100s Cruiser) and my father (08 Prado & 80s Cruiser before that) have regularly gotten 110-120k from their BFG AT's.
