A few days ago, we all heard the announcement that
Ningaloo has been declared a World
Heritage Area. As we are heading up there in a fortnight for our family winter school holiday getaway, I've been checking the facts and chatting with Phil from
Ningaloo Station.
He confirms that this new announcement does NOT in anyway affect camping on
Ningaloo Station, nor in fact any of the pastoral stations in the region. The World
Heritage Area listing only covers the
Cape Range National Park and the Marine Park, leaving the pastoral leases.
This is great news for what they have been fighting for these last few years - the ability to continue their pastoral operations AS
WELL as remain open to unchanged camping access.
Things have changed a lot however, in the 2 years since we were last at
Ningaloo Station - locked gates to access the 4 camping areas for example, but Phil says its been done to help provide a safer sanctuary for campers, to stop day-trippers coming in etc.
We are so excited about our upcoming trip - and of course, we will provide
blogs whilst we are away, and show off all the big fish that we catch and maybe share a few
recipes!
I've already started on the food inventory. We've spent a bomb at the tackle
shop, camping
shop etc to update a few things, and just going thru the motions of dusting off the gear pre-packing.
Thanks, Michelle
