high all. i am trying to organize a 4wd mystery tour for work social club. trouble is i know nothing about these things.. ha ha ha. to my knowledge we can start at one point with directions to the next and so on until the end. Prizes along the way maybe. Does this make sense to anyone? Has anybody had experience with this kind of thing before?

They were popular in the 60s and 70s,although they were purely on road.
But I think its possible as long as it involves some on road sections and keeping it simple so those who get lost can trace their way back to a known point.
If EVERYONE had a GPS it would work. You could leave GPS coordinates as clues at various locations.
Maybe nail something up a tree or write coordinates on a
car wreck to get to the next location.
You also need to give every participant a sealed envelope with directions for those who are hopelessly lost.
You might also need a rescue plan for anyone who breaks down or gets stuck.
Hopefully all your work mates will have some recovery gear etc and know how to use it:wink:

Thanks
Ross
I haven't heard of one before....ever. So its great to get some ideas. I can see this taking some time to plan although it sounds like great fun. I have been doing some track research and the idea of some on road is good if only to allow a greater distance to be covered. Thanks for the tips

Hi Daniel,
Haven't been on one for thirty years or more.
As a kid I went on them all the time, every few months with a mates older brother who had his license.
I forget the name of them, it was around
Ballina and one of the social clubs ran it.
From memory, Every body had an envelope to start with, this had a set of instructions/driving directions with clues to the name of roads, land marks, these were worth points along the way and the miles/km to different
places where more clues were. These runs covered most of the
Ballina, Lennox Head, Tintenbar, Teven, Wardelll areas. with everybody ending up at said the Wardel pub or the
Seven Mile beach, lennox head for a picnic lunch arvo BBQ. Prices were a bottle of plonk or beer, or a voucher to a local
shop.
Sounds like a lot of fun. Can't see why it would work off road as
well.
Good luck with it all.
Cheers.

Hi there hairs (or is it fysh?)
the Plan is to start at Mt Perry and do a couple of loops through Bania National park coming out at
Monto and looping our way back from there toan afternoon at the Perry pub. Sounds simple enough, i mean how hard could it be:)
the picnic lunch is great idea though as this will let any stragglers catch up.
Thanks for the tips
Dan

Daniel,
Send Deslexic a member message and see if he can do a tour for you.
He has a history of getting misplaced so anyone following him will definately be on a Mystry tour hehehehehe
Cheers Kev

Gday
Ask your neighbour who is not going on the mystery tour to do the trip when it is all set up, just to be sure it can be done.

We use to do them years ago when I was in Apex.
There were prizes for different stages of the route.
For some reason the
Cook and I would win the Spit The Dummy prize for getting lost.
Yes it was a very large babies dummy that you can buy at novelty stores.
Just make sure you have a Tail End Charlie who can round up the lag behinders or the lost.
Cheers

When we have done it we give two envelopes.
One has the instructions, clews etc. The other is labelled to be opened if the participants have not reached the end by a set time. This one contains the name and clear location of the final meeting point.
If the second envelope is opened that group can not win any prizes but they still get the BBQ
