Hi Dough Boy

The extent of water is no where like last year and one thing is for sure, it will run no where as long as it did last year. It will be months but how many it the crystal ball answer.

The locals are not saying how long it could go for and my Transport SA contact could only say that anyone wanting to take a ferry ride is advised to do it sooner rather than later.

If the seasons get back to normal type conditions, it could be another 20 years or more before it is put back into operation again.

This is the most reliable details that I have at this stage.

Cheers

Hi

All things beings equal, we should be setting up camp near the ferry site on Friday 5th August. If you see a Black Prado with orange double kayak on its roof, that will be me and stop and say g'day. We will there a few days before heading up to Innamincka.

Hi

There was just a news report on the local ABC Radio that "flood waters have now reached the Birdsville Track and the Ferry has now been put back into operation...."

Der...If they had been watching this forum they would have seen that it has now been in operation for a week.

Next stuff with the ABC Radio report, the flood waters are 3 metres deep over the Birdsville Track and 300 metres wide....WRONG.

Yes it may be only 300 metres wide, but not 3 metres deep, as last year it was around the 1.2 metres deep in its deepest spots, and around 5 kilometres wide over the Birdsville Track.

The only thing that they did say that could be correct is the Ferry may be in operation until September.

So like Juanita from Transport SA told me,take the crossing sooner rather than later.

Cheers

Hi Coley

The canoeing should be better this year, with currents not as strong. It was good last year and we are taking the double kayak back this time. His was me out there on the Cooper last year.

Thanx Steve

that looks really good.
Might take a small inflatable that two of us can get in which would be fun and just drift with the current

Hi Coley 62
I havent been lucky enough to have been there before when in flood , I have a mate who was there last year who tells me that the current was quite strong, so quite difficult to do much without fear of falling out of the canoe.
I had heard the same as Stephen L in that conditions are looking better this year, so I am planning to take my inflatable canoe , There mite be a few of us in it paddling down the creek
Perhaps we mite see you there in your own canoe ?
