Hi,

We are planning some more camping trips and are interested in seeing some more historic buildings or sites around SE Queensland, the kinds of things you see a bit off the beaten path. Eg, we saw the Double Island Point lighthouse on the weekend (Cooloola) which was a little bit out of the way, and have visited Mount Mulligan (in Far North Qld) a while ago, which was a lot out of the way and has the remains of an abandoned town with an interesting history.

So, we are looking for ideas of things like that to see within around 400 kms of Brisbane.

Any ideas?

Mount Morgan is an interesting town, with lots of history and interesting buildings, as well as the mine.Ravenswood is another place to visit - two pubs, a never open museum (well not when we were there), The Blow - a quartz outcrop outside the town, camping is at the oval.Rathdowney has a good museum next to the Visitors Centre, Kalbar has the Wiss Emporium - very elaborate building in a really small town. There are something like eight cemetaries in and around Kalbar, and several churches.
Just some of my suggestions, of places I have been.

Fraser Island has the Mc Kenzie Jetty on the western side of the Island and the Maheno Wreck on eastern side.

There is also the old Z-Force site that the army used in ww2 for training.

Also check out some old Pubs and Homesteads on the Darling Downs some are heritage listed.

Cheers

few other places you might want to check out include Boolbunda tunnel and also out that way sort of is a concrete rail bridge built back in 1905 just near Biggenden.
we also crossed a fantastic old wooden bridge just before Miva that i stopped at for and hour and took photos of.

that last link you'll need to copy and paste the whole link as the highlighted part just takes you to the main page. it's called the Chowey Bridge anyway if you want to search that.

Theres a beautifull big old train tunnel right on the gold coast at molendinar.

The steam trains used to run from brisbane to southport a long time ago, of course.

It must be a hundred metres or more long and five metres high, not many people are aware of it sadly, it should be heritage listed and displayed really.

I think its made of bluestone, i cant be certain though.

I used to go four wheel driving through it and all around there before alot of the main roads went in around the area, the gold coast was a great place 30 years ago, now its a circus!
