G'Day John and Val

Yes indeed it is a sad to read of the passing of a genuinely nice bloke, I had the pleasure of meeting the man, around 40 years ago at the Shell service station in Yunta South Australia.
We seemed to have talked for hours about wildflowers ~ of all things !!

That would have been Ding's roadhouse at Yunta, and Tom worked initially for Harry Ding.
Another guy who worked for Harry Ding was Fred Teague.

Harry Ding had the mail contract and Tom and Fred were two of his drivers.

Fred's son John runs the Mobil at Hawker.

Sad news about Tom.

There is a great book about Toms exploits,
Mail for the back of beyond by John Maddocks.

cheers

Dave

G'day Dave B

Right on mate, it certainly was the Ding(s) Service station on a red hot Yunta day to be exact and my trusty series 2 short wheel base Land Rover was feeling a tad puffed from the head wind, I was on my way to Waukaringa then on up into the Lake Callabonna region.

As all the folk that have responded to John and Vals thread and no doubt all those who knew him personally rightly say, Tom Kruse was certainly a gentle man and quite a well built bloke too with a real mans hand shake ~ like a bloody big vice ~ with a smile !

A sad misjustice on the behalf of the ABc Tom Kruse was born in Waterloo (5413 near Auburn in the Clare valley)....NOT WATERLOO CORNER.

How disrespectful.

Yes a lovely gentle man who we had the pleasure of spending time with in the last 14 years including being on the mailrun renactment in 1999, and many events since.

Pesty, I heard the news on the radio a couple of hours ago and I too was saddened to hearof his passing although 96 years was a pretty good innings.

A truely remarkable Aussie, who led a truely remarkable life.

R.I.P. Tom Kruse, Mailman of the Birdsville Track. You have earned it.

May the legend grow, from this day hence.

Very sad to hear of his passing.

Never had the pleasure meself but he was clearly a very special person.

Not many will enjoy the high regard and goodwill that he has enjoyed and deserved. It's always hard to accept the passing of one once so big, vital and bright as he was. His legend will grow.

Hi John and Val

Yes it was very sad to here the news today. Right to the end Tom was a top man and even at 96, made his last trip to Marree in April this year.

R.I.P Tom.

Sad to hear this. He fortunately lived his life to a ripe old age. We will always remember and admire him. These modern celebs are mostly full of hot air in comparison.

Another lose of a real legend, sad to see but time waits for no man. A man woho gave so much for little reward.
May others take his place, although the world is becomoing a much smaller place and the pioneer is nearly extinct.
