Hi folks
I have just purchased the above programme and the Geoscience raster maps of Australia. I loaded the ozieexplorer disc and the raster maps into my laptop with little problem but had some difficulty getting the globalsaqt mouse gps to communicate with the map programmes.
However I persisted and was able to get the led on the mouse to flash and I also located the correct port to plug the mouse into as
well as doing a port scan and getting lots of numbers to scan through on the scan of the comm port box.
All this seems to indicate that all is
well and that the mouse is transferring data to the map programme. However when I move outdoors I cant get any position readings nor indoors using the simulator function. I have a lot of experience with navigation especially with gps but Im just not seeing anything appearing on the local area map that indicates a position.
If anyone out there has some helpful tips I would appreciate it. Also if there is anyone that I could get together with about this living in the se qld region.
Thanks
George

Hi George
In "File" , "Configuration", "GPS" under "GPS Make" have you selected "NMEA Only" ?
and under "Moving Map" have you selected " Start NMEA Communication with GPS" ?
Cheers

Another problem I found was that program supplied with the GPS, (in my case GOSinfo) the one that scans the com ports and shows the Satellite status etc, must be closed before you start Oziexplorer, otherwise Ozi cant get access to the GPS.
The procedure I follwed was to start the "GPSinfo" program, let it scan and find the relevant com port, make a note of the com port number, baud rate etc, then make sure it gets a fix on the satellites.
Close the GPSinfo program.
Start Oziexplorer, go intothe setup area and find the GPS settings area, fill in the info noted earlier.
One more thing I found with my netbook, was that if I put the GPS into a different USB port, it would register as a different com port number.

Gday grinner & mad dog
Grinner I followed up on your suggestion regarding Gps info did the scan got the info & inserted it. You mentioned getting a sat fix
well I was inside at the time but a swag of numbers like binary notation scrolled through. I then went outside led on mouse began to flash but still no cigar.
Surely there cant be anything wrong with the mouse.
Mad dog I will
check that site out and let you know how it goes thanks for your help.

Hi madog
I checked on the smarter safety site and it proved very helpful.
I now can view the sat / position info and also get my ground position but not on the map only in the sat info box. I am using the correct map.
Your thoughts please

Dear Madog
I followed up your suggestion of utililising moving map / moving map control & start. I had looked at it before but not had a result because of an idiosyncrasy with its layout. However this time I got results on the world map of oziexplorer even had moving map & flashing map show up at bottom left hand corner of screen so it does work.
However it all comes to a halt when I exit world map & start up on the local area map which is hema 4wd because the moving map toolbar isnt available on these maps.
The idiosyncrasy I mentioned is when you click on start in moving map control box. Start disappears & stop appears & then the position arrow displays.
If you hit stop & get start the arrow goes away so the show of stop means things will work which seems a little silly.
The other strange thing is when your on moving map control box & you click on those other little yellow boxes for a more detailed map it says unavailable.
So how can I go from the world map site on oziexplorer to the other maps without losing my position arrow.
Getting very close now just need a little more of a push. I am most obliged to you mate & Ill make it up to you for your help so most appreciated.
George

If it can't find a more detailed map than the world map, it sounds like it doesn't know where the maps are.
Under File - Configuration - map images:- make sure the path to the maps is correct.

George,
You are moving forward, just got to manage the odd speed hump mate, and don't worry we all have them when starting out.
If you hit stop & get start the arrow goes away so the show of stop means things will work which seems a little silly......yep, bit like hitting Start to shut down in Windows.
I reckon LexM has nailed it with the map file paths -
check my OziExplorer Help Page for notes on setting up your File / Configuration.

G"day Madog
I seem to have ground to a halt. Ive looked at the map file path, tried a few things but nothing worked.
I just not sure of what it wants in those 4 spaces in file paths. Its almost certain that there is where the problem lies. I have the hema australia 4wd raster map collection installed but it wont communicate with oziexplorer because the hema maps arent in the same file, how do I discover what details of oziexplorers world map file name is.
Once again thanks

When you copied the maps to your PC, did the CD/DVD have .map files as
well as image file i.e. .ecw or .ozfx3.
If you havent copied over the .map files, then Ozi wont be able to use them in Moving Map.

Further to what Zebra400 said.
If you have the .ecw files with no .map files then you have to do :-
File - import map - ecw maps

G'day Lex
Thanks 4 ur help mate and also to Laurie, Roger, Olcoolone, Grinner, Resqguy ,Banray plus anyone else Ive missed. Your all tremendous people and I wouldnt have succeeded without your help.
I tried to follow all the advice as best I could but this sunday I hit load on the world map and down come the menu as before nothing happened I tapped the screen to remove the menu and wella world map vanished to be replaced by a local map . I jumped in the car drove some kays locally and everything went along nicely.
I was beginning to think the whole thing was going to drag on longer then the Blue Hills radio serial. Now I vaguely remember something in the vast repositry saying first time round you had to load maps and then on it would happen all by itself.
Once again thank you all
George

Hi George
If the red light is flashing on your GPS, then your GPS unit is receiving GPS positions.
The COM port is the important thing with the mouse. In your config file, under the GPS tab, just click on the 'Find GPS Port' button to find your COM port number. Another window will open. Make sure you select your GPS type as 'other'. Now click on 'Find GPS'. It will take a while to
check each Com port for your GPS.
Once it has stopped and shows your Com port, go to the COM tab and change the Com Port to this number. Also, make sure you havent change the NMEA
baud rate from 4800. It needs to be 4800 to work.
Yes, you are right, if you plug your GPS into a different USB port, Windows will assign a different COM port number to it. So make sure you use the same USB port for the mouse each time you use it.
Good luck!
Laurie
