I just heard some news a couple of days ago about some '' irresponsible'' young hoons out 4wding around Yalwal. Apparently they had arrived at a locked gate somewhere out there and decided to use their winch to pull the gate apart so they could continue on the track.
As they were doing this 2 bush walkers arrived and were walking thru the same trail, they managed to get some rego numbers and pics on the mobile phones to pass onto the authorities.

Magic stuff, these idiots really do need to be pulled into line. And with the damage we have seen because of similar instances at Bendethera, we will soon be locked out of that area too in the future.

We were camped at Noojee a couple of weeks back and a guy came in and asked if we would do a survey about camping in the area. He was saying they are closing a lot of the camping grounds due to vandalism, mainly people burning toilets down and pulling gates off with winches. He was saying they are now installing cameras on some loked gates to catch the idiots wrecking it for everyone else. He said about 2 months earlier they caught a guy with his winch cable wrapped around the toilet block pulling it over. He thought it was funny. Apparently there was a vehicle watching full of rangers. These people should loose their right to go bush by loosing their vehicle.
The guy we spoke to asked everyone to keep an eye out for anyone doing this and take photos and rego and report. Thankfully the bush walkers had the quick thinking to get photos and rego off the idiot mentioned above.
Penalties for this kind of stupidity needs to be increased.

Shaker......Imagine reading this......
Environmentalist camping in National park capture hoons ripping trees down with 4wd on camera.......hoons have been reported to ranger.

What realy happened was local campers removed log from fork of tree to stop the tree from being knocked down in the next flood.......log was towed to campsite to be left for campers who arrive on foot and have no means of supplying their own wood......also stops hikers from ripping down green branches to try and light fires.
Yes the ranger did have a chat to us and thanked us for using initiative....we also spent an hour cleaning up the snotty tissues and bits of foil out of the environmentalists camp site after they left.

What I'm saying is the post sounded like a lot of hear say and assumptions.......yes it could be exactly like it sounds....and there might be a completely logical reason too?............Like they were fencing contractors ......or they owned the land?

Thats a bit rude......you just leave a "personal attack" comment and call me arrogant?

As I live right on the edge of the High Country, I may be a bit sensitive about the subject.
I am sick of bogans vandalising camp sites & destroying tracks in our area!

Well then Hairy, sorry to have to clear things up for you but....... the info came first hand from the local fisheries inspector who frequents the dam out there quite often.
Those who use this area know the dam I'm talking about.

No not really, vandalism, is as very much wrong as illegal dumping. We had some illegal dumping of many many many, abalone shells at Mogo NSW over the last few years, they were discovered in numerous locations by a weekend prospector.

local Rangers followed up the dumps, and discovered some rubbish amongst the shells, after sorting through it, gues what the idiots had thrown out? An old credit card. Their motel rooms now have a view with bars.

cheers

Taking pictures of a winch pulling a locked gate open really takes it out of the realm of hearsay I would think....but that's just my opinion ;-) Mike

also be careful as they might attack you for doing the right thing.

Just so you know i don't throw my rubbish out the window

Perhaps if the councils were to stop charging people to use the tip there would not be so much dumping

Ray

When all the councils in QLD were amalgamated, our local tip stopped charging for domestic waste. This doesn't seem to have gotten through to the idiots who are still dumping household rubbish in the state forest.

There are signs in the forest asking people to phone in to report illegal dumping. Perhaps if the signs also pointed out that council tips are free (and that illegal dumping potentially costs thousands) at least some people might think twice.

What is always disappointing is the piles of old tyres - for which people have paid a disposal fee - which are then dumped by unscrupulous operators.

Cheers, Maaate

For those in Victoria who witness this sort of idiotic behaviour, you can go to the "Dob in a Hoon" page on the 4wdvictoria website here: http://www.fwdvictoria.org.au/

Alternatively you can contact Parks victoria directly on 13 2874 or 13 BUSH .

Remember hoon behaviour by either 4wd operators or Trail bike riders just give more ammunition to those who wish to lock up the bush. So it is the best interest of those who enjoy accessing areas like the Victorian high country to report hoon behaviour to held ensure we keep access.

For those who think it is their right to hoon in the bush, please grow up and get a life as you are an idiot.
