On our way down from Exmouth to Carnarvon, I noticed a bit of 'rubbish' apparently discarded at one of the roadside parking bays.

On inspection it turns out to be a Kawasaki motorcycle, which has been stashed under a bush about 50 metres off the road.

Reported find to police at Carnarvon and they indicated they may head out to it tomorrow - bit wet today and Sunday anyway.

If anyone wants further info, I will be monitoring the thread on the way home.

Cheers - Phil

How big was the bike? Maybe the rider is broken down and trying to hide it while he/she hitches into town with luggage to get replacement parts. This is what i would do if my bike broke down on a trip.

Hi wizzer - too big for me tochuck in the van. Don't want to post too many details here yet.

Several scenarios spring to mind for it being hidden.

lol, no specific details required, i was just curious to whether it was a tourer or a small dirt bike. Anyways, hope the owner is found.

hi phil
wouldn't it be better to keep the further imfo under wraps until the police have had a chance to inspect it as it may be a stolen bike
if you give out more details someone may take it before the police can see it
but then you found it so theres a chance that someone else will also see it ????? it may have been put there in the dark and the rider might have thought it was far enough off the road but has proved not the case when its daylight
cheers

G'day Phil'n Jill, you've done the right thing reporting it to the police, there is nothing more you can do. You could lodge a found property report and if the bike goes unclaimed you may get it back.

Maybe this forum needs to promote the "friendliest first" rule a bit more. Comments like that help no one. Bob

Maybe if old bert546 was lying , injured on the side of the road...I wonder if he would still be so bloody rude and tell people to mind their own business and move on...what goes around, comes around.

almost exactly this scenario occurred in that area about 15-20 years back.
A roadtrain pulled into Billabong late at night and reported seeing headlights in the bush (possible rollover).

Roadhouse called Gero police who said its Carnarvon district, Carnarvon said Gero and nothing happened.

First light a car pulled into the roadhouse-theres a body on the roadside. It appeared the guy crawled to the road and passed away.

Good onya Bert, thats the aussie way. Why dont you have a look at the "unfolding story" thread of the "fool" who dared help some people broken down-youd fit right in there.

we did the same thing when crossing the Simpson. The rider broke his collar bone so we stashed it hidden off the road and he came back and collected it a few months later when he could ride it back home to Adelaide. Probably fairly innocent why it's there.

Cheers,

I remember a bike being found and taken away by the finder and kept secret until it was ascertained that the owner of the bike had been murdered -- but the non reporting of the bike find ,I think it was years, let any trail go cold for the police !! I commend you for reporting it

Hiding a broken down bike off the track is common. It happens all the time. That would be the most likely scenario.

Just out of curiosity, did the bike have a number plate on it ?? If it did I would have given the police the all the relevant details and the number plate. At least the numberplate would indicate where it came from.
