I bought a cheapie new printer just for that purpose. It fits snuggly in its box under the bed.
I guess another option is to transfer your file on to a USB drive and take it into an internet cafe, ask the park office to assist, computer shop in town????

Yep, that's what I got. Canon Pixma MP 270 SCANNER/COPIER/PRINTER from Harvey Norman for $38 on special. Very light, easy ,lives under the bed in its box.

Tina G,

I thought the USB drive may be the way to go but as we haven't started our "Round Australia" trip just yet (waiting for hip replacement to stabilise) was not sure where we would go to get the print offs. Our Financial Adviser says he will email documents that will require signing and returning and the thought of carrying a printer/scanner which will get used maybe once every month or so did not warrant the space.

Fred G,

I hear what you are saying but there is always something that warrants the space under the bed and I haven't been able to decide whether the extra space used would better utilised by something better like fishing gear, beer or wines. Having a printer always means you tend to print off stuff that if you didn't have the printer you wouldn't bother about when you think about it later.

Thanks Paul C7

hi
but will the printer in the box under the bed stand upto the vibrations and shaking about ?????
no not from the bed activities
but from the horregations and road surfaces
severe shaking may dislodge the ink from the cartridge or shake the printer to pieces
cheers

You worry to much Our HP we bought for the trip did 50,000k and is still going.

Probably would be better in its box under the bed as they are carted all around the world in that before you buy it after all.

It sat on a shelf under the table on the mudguard with some antislip rubber under it.

Never moved once and no damage at all.

Was $59 at Officeworks and even cheaper now.

We needed our printer and scanner for a few pages. It was well worth the minimal cost for the printer as it conveniently offset my need to print a document via post (financial planning related) back. We drove from Melbourne to Perth via the south of WA then up to Denham, back inland to Kalgoorlie and home via Renmark, Hay and Echuca. Most roads were sealed, but we will have shook the living daylights out of the caravan contents a few times. U-turns over unsealed sides of roads can be terribly bumpy at times too. The printer remained safe in its box as did all other contents, no damage, breakages or loss (unless I forget to snib the drawer catches).

To all those that responded to my call about printing whilst on the road I sincerely thank you. We am going to use the USB method until I can not find a retailer or internet cafe that will print off the information. Then if it is deemed necessary we will go down the printer purchase line.

Again I thank you all and hope that we meet somewhere on that great stretch of black tar, but preferably at happy hour somewhere.

Personally I would never run anything that could be considered personal or confidential through an internet cafe computer.

After watching a program on TV about copiers and how the guy retrieved peoples personal documents out of its memory I would be using only my own stuff. Printers in some cases have a memory as well.

Also when you come to find out you may need to buy a printer it may be costly as only big town retailers like Dicky and Officeworks etc sell them for the prices seen in this thread.

I have been away for 15 months now and any time I need printing I emailed the CP Office and they did the printing.
Why email? Most businesses will not use your USB as that is the quick way to a virus.
Email is quick and easy.

To true should have mentioned that.

A lot of businesses wont allow employees to load off one of them or even home burnt Cd's

Bill,

When you think you have solved the worlds problems or only your own along comes someone with more wisdom than yourself.

I thank you for your words of wisdom although I am not aware of what the "CP Office" represents. Could you please advise?

Hi Paul

As we very rarely need to print anything while on the road, i take the document to a public internet access point on a USB thumb drive. This is only needed when a document has to be signed. Otherwise i do all private correspondence and business matters on line. In most cases a letter sent by email is a good (and faster) than a letter sent by snail mail. We do not get physical mail when travelling - all is done by email, but we have family at home to scan and email anything needing our attention.

we are doing exactly the same as MH. Email makes life so easy. I also figure this way I print out virtually nothing at all - I make notes instead of printing out things like campsite info so feel better about not wasting paper.

Hi
Like Fed G, we carry a Canon Pixma , but ours is a MP190.
It is great to be able to print anything, whenever and wherever you want.
When meeting people on the road, it is surprising how much information you swap. Being able to scan / photo copy as well is also a great option, that has been used many times.
Cheers
Neil
