The communities of Seisa,
Bamaga, Umagico,
Injinoo and TI atrike me as the friendliest I have struck in all of our island continent.
All the people wave as you drive past and service in the community is always accompanied with a smile. Even the kids are polite!
Its a good feel place and
well worth a visit.
Cheers
Spero

I noticed that too when up there in 2007. Keep an eye out for a former member of this site, Willem, he is camped at Umagico and going to
Somerset today with his wife.

Its a shame that the national parks burn down the old
Somerset house in about 1980-81 it was a good spot to sit & have a beer, not much left now, last year it was an effort to find the
well to show the kids.

Too late Spiro he was there this morning, but if you see an ugly, tall, bald gent with a lovely wife & a dog that may be him.

Be nice to think things have improved. I was there in 07. It was impossible to strike up a conversation with the locals. At the
check-out you were lucky to get a surly grunt. We consider ourselves friendly, social people. No matter where we went we found the locals quite rude. The signs to local sights had been taken down to make it harder to find - eg plane wrecks.
We spoke to many on our return who had similar experiences.
