I have a problem.

While traveling across to WA at one Road house my 20 month old baby played with the buttons and locked the radio on channel 26.

I have referred to the manual without any success. I have tried all the buttons and combinations without success.

Is there anybody have any knowledge on haw to fix.

The only thing i can think of is it has "channel lock" assigned to one of the function keys.

The IC400pro has a two lot of programable functions that require holding the function key for 1 second or pushing the "F" key followed by a function key.

What you might want to do is try pushing and holding one function key at a time for 1 second and see if it unlocks the "channel lock " function.

Or try pushing the "F" key and once followed by one of the function keys, you will have to repeat this for each of the function keys.

Without looking at the radio it is a little hard to diagnose but ill have a go.

There are multiple layers of menu's within the unit and i would hazard a guess that your's is in there somewhere.

Looking at your display, are any / which of the Underbar Indicators are 'On'?

I im guessing your little one put the unit into FUNCTION MODE then pressed whichever button on your unit is assigned to Channel Lock.

You need to go back into Function mode then press whichever button is assigned to Channel lock but beware you could end up delving deeper into the units menu's causing more unwanted problems.

To go into the Function mode you need to press and hold down the F key for 1 Second, this will enter the Channel Bank selection area. Press the F key down again for 1 Second, this will put you into Function mode. (If you press it again, you will go into Set mode and then it will loop back to the start. Channel Bank > Function > Set > Chann.......)

I would suggest going into Function mode then pressing another different key (not the F key) once for 1 second then waiting, if it is the correct key which has been assigned to Channel Lock then the display should show LOCK ON or LOCK OFF... in which case toggle it so it displays LOCK OFF.

If the channel lock function has been enabled on your unit then the obvious button to use is the SCN button, so i would try that one first. Function mode, SCN for 1 Second...

If you press the wrong key, Do not press any more buttons. Simply wait for a minute for the unit to 'reset' back to Normal Mode then start again > Function Mode, press a different key for 1 Second and so on..........................

BUT, these units are infinitely programmable, without hooking the unit up to a computer running the ICOM programming software there is no way to be 100% sure how it has been setup.

I hope this helps and please let us know how you get on. If the above doesnt work let me know your findings and ill keep thinking about how it might be programed.

Travis.

Don't feel too bad - the manual for that radio would have to be one of the worst around - all correct I'm sure, but it's written for the people who wrote it !! The average punter has no hope. Took me ages to fathom the CTCSS and selcall setups (it's me, I know :-o). The channel lock function is detailed in my manual but it might as well be written in Swahili - it would seem that if you get into SET MODE you might be able to crash through the multi-stage cyber thicket to the on-off setting for that function. PS: I did ring Icom last year on a techno query - they might advise you direct ? It's a great radio - a lot of useful features - luckily mine is happy at present.

Darian,

The Channel Lock function exists only in Function Mode and must be first activated through the Icom cloning software.

The lock-out function within the Set Mode refers to blocking the users ability to talk when the channel is busy or talking back to a matched CTCSS tone.

Travis

I have tried the Function Key for One second then the function key again and the set mode flashes up for a half second and does not give me a chance to do any thing in that section.

I need to find somebody in the Toyota Landcruiser club that may have a software package to interrogate the the radio.

Thanks for your suggestion and thoughts.

I know someone with the software, you also need a lead to connect to the unit
