Did you hear of the Diesel Territory that run a bearing towing a 2300 Kg 23 ' van
from Melbourne to Mallacoota, during a 4 van test by a leading Caravan Mag ?
Car had 1600 km on it..Ford says it is a one off...may well be true, but unlikely to
inspire buyers. Not sure I would tow that weight with a new motor, but I suppose
they are built to take it...all except this one apparently......oldbaz.

Hi Baz,
Boss took one for a drive said it was even quicker then his x5. This is the same motor that use to be in the LR Discovery so should be sorted. We just had to put a steering rack in a 2 year old hilux with 117000 that cost $3000 ouch. I would not have spent a thousand dollars in four years and 86000k on my Jack yet. God knowes what I will replace it with.
Cheers Pete

Not quite the same motor the was in the Discovery.
Whiloe the Torque is thew same it has less power.
In the Discovery and the Jaguar the power was 160Kw at 4000RPM.
It was de-tuned to 150Kw two years ago to comply with new Euro emission regulations, and then downgraded to 140Kw for it's Aussie release in the Territory.
Plenty of torque for pulling loads, but not as much zip of the mark and for overtaking etc.
Cheers, Ozjohn.

Yes Pete, what do you replace a Jackaroo with? I have just done 5,500 km in mine over 2 weeks and would gladly do it again except for the weather I struck in Victoria and SA.

I'm pretty sure the 2.7L Disco has only ever made 140KW and that's still the case. Just Googled it to be sure. The 3.0L has 180KW.

OzJohn - sorry mate incorrect information there - the Territory engine is the same as the Disco 3/4 engine - same power and torque - all 140kw and 440nms

I have the 2.7 in my RRS.

Big end bearing damage has been showing up in the LR/Jag/Citroen engine as well but no more that any other engine.

it was the twin turbo version of the 2.7 only fitted to the Jag that developed somewhere around 154kw.

The diesel motor in the SZ Territory is the same unit as the Land Rover Discovery 3 unit. The engines are sourced from JLR as Ford owns the intellectual rights and patents on the engine.

That said, I hope this bearing failure was a one-off. Personally I would have run it in a bit more first but if there's a problem there's a problem and it will surface regardless.
