Hi, We're looking at buying a camper in the next year and have become really interested in the Mountain Trail Camper made in Albury NSW.

We're just trying to find anyone who may have or had one to get they're thoughts or pro and cons of the camper we've looked at a very wide range of campertrailers in the last two years and this one really stands out for us.

Any help or info would be great. Thanx.

Had a look at their website, for the price they are asking i think there are far better options for a soft floor camper IMHO,

Hi SkinnyGizmo,

We bought a Mountain Trail Off-Road Extended Escape about 12 months ago and have done a couple of short trips (not off-road) with the trailer so far. Very happy with the camper overall from a build quality, space (have the 10' extension), layout and features provided with the trailer. Tows very well behind the LC. We find it a bit challenging to pack away (still learning after only 2 trips) but easy to set up. Annex is a little more work and you might need a small step ladder to reach the higher points of the roof line. Everything you needed though came with the trailer.

I had a quick look at their website again and as you would expect, optional extras when we bought the trailer 12 months ago are now standard features and the new optional extras reflect current market competition. I did find I wanted to make a few changes to the rig after we picked it up to make it better for off-road travelling eg. brake wiring needed more protection from stone damage (very exposed and re-wired it inside a metal sleeved), water tank needed a bash plated added (my choice), the water pump was originally located in a very vulnerable location under the trailer so I moved it back under the trailer to near the wheels. I also ended up adding a Redarc DC to DC charger for on-road charging of the trailer's battery.

I'm looking forward to doing some serious off-road trips with the trailer over the next 12 months to test out it's potential on corrugated roads, rough tracks etc. In my view it's built strong enough to cope with these conditions. Does it represent value for money? Only you can decide that for your self - there are much cheaper models available but the thing that impressed us about this particular company was the build quality - IMHO it's very good. If your within travelling distance of Albury (say a day trip there and back) I'd recommend you make a trip to the factory so you can meet Nick and check out his facilities. We did when we were purchasing our trailer - just reinforced our comfort levels. Given the size of your ipotential nvestment wouldn't you like to see the product before you buy? Mountain Trailer exhibit at some of the eastern State caravan shows as well - check out their show schedule.

Hi Rob K,

Thanks for your info, we appreciate it. We did take a drive last year to Albury and went through the factory with Nick and were very impressed.

We'll be buying the Extended Evolution if we do decide to go Mountain Trail Campers, which seems a more and more definite way for us to go, like I said we've looked at a lot of campers and this one always seems to come out on top.

We've given ourselves a 2yr goal to keep working (we work in the Mines) then we're going to sell up, pack up and head out on that Big Trip for a couple of years til we decide we've had enough. So we really need a trailer that has everything and more.

I also like you, have looked at a few things I'd change on the trailer, not because its lacking in any way but just looking at photos on they're website and there would be just a couple of things need tweaking, but all in all it really does look like a good unit.
