We're looking at buying a small Windsor Rapid, and wonder about air con options. One we looked at but didn't buy had a Heron 2.2 in it.
Any suggestions on types, models and suppliers/installers?

Forgot to mention, we're looking at off-raod models.

The Heron 2.2 is not reverse cycle! for heating it just has a element any 20 dollar heater will do a better job for heating.
Cheers.

Thanks - didn't realise that! Any reverse cycle units small enough for a little poptop?

A small domestic inverter split system will work much better, far cheaper and will not require reinforcing the roof to take the weight like the roof mounted ones do.

Hi, We have a heron 2.2 in our 14ft poptop, The outlet is on top of the frig and the unit is under the front cupboard, It doesn't take up too much room and works
well for us, cools the van ok and heats very
well, the heat is only fan forced over a radiator.
Regards Keith

We have the same unit Keith & it cools & heats OK, but we are reluctant to use it while in close proximity to others as it is very noisy.
So, whilst it works OK, the fact that it is so noisy (outside the van) & therefore we severely restrict ourselves from using it, we may as
well not have it. Cheers.

Intersting point - comments about experience with noise would be handy.

We have a 2006 windsor rapid offroad 441 with the heron 2.2, we have been in
Canberra at
easter with below 0 and the heater works
well. Yes as someone suggested a $20 fan heater would do just as
well, but the spec's do show that the heron will only run down to +5 degrees yet we have run it down to -5 degreees. Worked fine 5 weeks ago in Alice at -5.
The aircon can be loud outside in aircon mode as the compressor is not soft start and can "clunk" when starting up. We had 1 couple complain whilst in a caravan park in the Northern Territory but can't be heard inside any more than the other brands we have owned.
Standard fitment from Windsor is the Heron, either 2.2 or 3.0 depending on size of van, so if you buy a second hand van these will be the most likely installed.
