Hi,
Does anyone have information/guidance/contacts on fitting airbags into rear coil springs on a 2005 100 IFS series SAHARA with factory fitted hydraulic self levelling
suspension.
For normal driving I would run with minimum air so vehicles self levelling
suspension continues to operate.
I intent to only pump airbags up when towing 3000Kg Caravan.

Would be far better to use a WDH I put airbags in my 100GXL and then put progressive springs in it and never bothered with the airbags after that.
Have seen it said they do hep the self levelling
suspension though
Have look on Lcool for info Plenty there to read

I will stand corrected....but I dont think you can fit airbags to the Sahara with the 'auto'
suspension

Hi. Your Sahara should have factory fitted airbags which replace the coil springs as are fitted to the GXL model. I am not sure if it is recommended to use a WDH with them. If you have a look on the lcool
forum under 100 series you should be able to find that information. You may have to join but it is free and is a wealth of information on Toyota's. Cheers,Bob.

Hi,
Nope no Air bags come standard with vehicle.
Suspension levelling is via hydraulic to the shockers.

If in the area try Autocraft at
Geelong. They are very good at sorting custom touring suspensions to suit your needs.

I have fitted air bags to my 2004 Lexus LX470 which uses the same
suspension as the Sahara. I did this as I had a ball weight of 200kg with the caravan and while this is OK with only 2 people on board it reduced max to 185kg with 4. I purchased a Firestone kit from Truck Springs in USA -
http://www.truckspring.com/suspension-parts/helper-springs/air-spring-kits/firestone.aspx?make=Lexus&year=2004&model=LX470 -
Had it landed to my doorstep for just over $120 Aud. Only need to put 10 PSI in them and I use it with a WDH when towing. Otherwise just under 5 PSI and can still use all of the functions of the AHC etc.
I basically drop the van onto the ball, level it up with the WDH and then put 10 PSI into each bag. To my way of thinking it takes a lot of pressure off the AHC system and gives me a lot of flexibility in what I carry. You can go up to 30 PSI if needed.

Hi,
Good news this is almost what I'd thought would be results.
Thanks all for help me with this next is to get the "Bags" and fit them up with convenient place for valve to pump them up and fit gauge to monitor pressures.
Thanks again.
Keep the shiny side up and the sun at your back!
