According to an add on TV, the above festival is being held at Childers this weekend, we are currently in Hervey Bay and thinking of going.
Does anyone know of any camping spots close to Childers that we could use for a night or two.
Thanks in anticipation.

If it is free camping you are after the closest is found in the roadside camp in the middle of Apple Tree Creek which is on the highway about 3 minutes North of Childers. Noisy spot though.

There is another free camp about halfway between Apple Tree Creek and Bundaberg which seems to get a fair bit of use by the grey nomads too.

You could try and get in touch with whoever manages the Childers Showgrounds as it is nice and quiet a couple of streets off the highway and nice grass and facilities. I have camped there a couple of times as part of the Historical Motorcycle Clubs activities and it is common for showgrounds in rural towns to be available for overnight stops to travellers for a small fee.
You could walk to the festival from there too as parking can be a problem. Maybe they will be using the showgrounds for parking and then camping will not be an option.

Personally I would travel a bit further and stay in one of the council caravan parks out at Elliot Heads of Burnett Heads. Only takes about 45 minutes to Childers from these.

I hope this helps.

Gday Guys,

If you are in the process of heading North, I would drive the extra distance to Gin Gin and stay at the Gin Gin show grounds. Don't use the caravan park behind the service station. Their is also a free camp just North of town but it is very busy and I don't know that I would leave a rig their all day unattended.

However you do it, the Sunday is a must do if in the area. We have been the last two years and will go again as it is one of the best small town festivals you will come across.

Lew.

There's Booyal crossing north of Childers, it's on Ozcamps link.
There are a couple of bands on at the Apple Tree Creek Pub Saturday night, the add on the radio says to bring your camping gear, so that might be a spot to avoid.
