Hi, I have seen some post about western explorer on this forum, but they are couple of years old, so I was wondering if it is OK to do western explorer with Falcon station wagon towing my dad’s Ultimate. I was going to have 4x4 by now, unfortunately my old Falcon got written off and I need a car for everyday transport, so I bought another Falcon (BF this time). I am bit unhappy about that, since there seem to be quite a lot one can do with 4x4 in Tasmania, but I will have to wait couple of years before I can think of 4x4 now. But then again nothing beats Falcon Station Wagon for carry capacity. So I would appreciate any comments from anybody who has done the road recently on its state. I will be traveling in December/January – any tips on good campsites would be appreciated too.
Thanks

We did that road from Arthur River to the Pieman River ,& onto Strahan in Feb this year. I dont think you would have any issues with the Ford. The road is a firm grey
gravel & even though it was raining it was fine..no need for 4wd. We were covered in the grey stuff but it rains in Tassie all the bloody time & soon washed it off again..:))). I would check the conditions closer to your trip as anything can happen.
Nice camping at Corrina on the Pieman..no power. The boat cruise at Arthur River is better than the Pieman one, but both worth doing. Nice caravan park at Zeehan, & a
great museum..easy day trip to Strahan from there. The railway trip was excellent..
cheers....oldbaz.

This road is quite rough on tires so take necessary precautions…
