Drysdale River Station
Hi everyone,
Just a line to say the
Kalumburu Road is now open all the way through to
Kalumburu.
It needs grading from
the junction of the
Gibb River Road to the
Mitchell Plateau turn off, this is to happen shortly.
From plateau turn off North to
Kalumburu it is good, having just been opened after being repaired and graded.
There is a weight limit on it all but that won't bother a normal 4 WD / trailer set up.
cheers, Anne

Great news for
Kalumburu businesses as
well as travellers wanting to go this season. Friends touring in the area told me the good news a day or two ago, but i didn't know there was a weight limit. Just out of interest, what is the limit?

Thanks for that Anne and the link. Just to confuse us, the page on the SWEK link, before opening the Road Conditions link for the good news, shows it still as closed:
"The
Kalumburu Road sustained major damage during the wet season. Remediation work has been carried out on some sections of the road. The road is now open to 4wd and High Clearance Vehicles under 3.5 Tonne from
the junction with the
Gibb River Road to
the junction with Port Warrender Road.
The Port Warrender Road is now open to 4wd and High Clearance Vehicles under 3.5 Tonne from
the junction with
Kalumburu Road through to the
Mitchell Plateau only.
The
Kalumburu Road remains closed from
the junction with Port Warrender Road through to
Kalumburu. "
No wonder our friends didn't go! If it is referring to overall rig, not weight of tow vehicle and trailer per each, our overall rig at maximum load is 7.5 tonne and i know they outweigh us with a full load.

I know, we wrote and asked them to get it altered as it's SO misleading !
Yes I'd treat it as per vehicle, per trailer not overall rig. It's stupid anyway and I have no idea at all why they still have such a low weight limit on it all. The bit from
junction to the
Mitchell falls has had a truck over it for weeks and the only soft spot was fixed properly 2 weeks back.
