New to HF Radio

I have a Patrol tray back with a fibreglass canopy.What is the best a hi-gain or 9ft Stainless Steel Whip.The radio is a Barrett 250 with auto tuner.Radio is in the canopy, antenna mount on rear step.Please can you Help.

Best reception from the longer element ie the 9ft whip. Tx the same from both.

Hi Bob

I think you meant the other way round.

When an aerial is made electrically short its effiencty suffers.

This directly affects transmission and only indirectly affects reception on HF bands which have atmospheric noise present.
