Just doing some research and trying to find out if getting out to cape Melville is worth the effort or the princess Charlotte bay area. I am also looking at taking a quad bike up. I know that once in national park areas it is more than likely an idea not to ride it but I think the telegraph track should be fine. Anyway just after some ideas

Cheers Tony .

Tony - Yes & Yes :-)

I wanted to say no, too many people are finding out about these places and it gets harder and harder to camp & too busy on the roads :-)

Cheers Tony

With your quad bike Check an see if you can get a conditional rego for it & then you should be fine even in the National Park, some years ago my son & I crossed from West (steep point WA) to east (Birdsville) on quads & had no problem getting conditional regos for the quads in all the states except NSW. At the time my son was only 15 & was issued with a conditional licence which let him legally ride on the roads set out on our trip (with a lot of conditions) we could even get this in NSW but no rego so our trip stopped on the NSW border

just remember unless it a large quad the trip we not be as comfortable due to the tracks are use to 4wd & bikes & most quads will have one will on the track & one on the centre hump this made our crossing the biggest problem & caused a few good roll overs
good luck

Cheers Vince that would of been a good trip that you did. I guess to enquire about the conditional rego you just head to the department of transport. The bike will be a Polaris 500. So it is quite a large bike. I was going to just take my dirt bike but my partner wants to play as well so in fairness I decided to take a quad for her. Thanks for the info Vince.
