The Icom IC-41S is also upgradeable, but you need the programming software, adjusting software and a programming cable (different cable to 400pro). One dealer I spoke to quoted $60 to do it, if you don't want to DIY.

Hi Rockape, do you know if the GME TX 3800 radio is upgradeable to the 80 channel, I have had some some extra frequencies (Screen says channel 50, 51, and 52.) On it now for Motorsport events and some other work done to it, the unit has been excellant and I would like to keep it. Any Info on the 80 Ch upgrade would be helpful, cheers, Kanga.

The GME TX 3800 is upgradeable as it has enough channels and will do narrow band RX and TX.

If you join this group, you will find all you need.
TX3800 group

I put the 80 channel file in there. It runs wideband for channels 1 - 40 and narrrowband for channels 41 - 80 for better compatibility with old UHF's.
You might even find some software for a PC too.

Also you can buy a cable on ebay if you don't have one.

Thanks Steve, the radio is too good to replace, I'll get the extra frequencies put into it. All the best, Kanga.

On ya Rockape!!

Looks like I may not have to buy another UHF afterall!!

I bought a TX4400 a couple of years ago and I think I can add channels ( but this was before my knowing of the 80 channel change ).

I guess I must check the serial number!

Thanks

Why don't manufacturers be honest and say that they are a 75 channel UHF, not 80 as they advertise as 5 channels are locked and cannot be used?

Cheers Neil

They are called 80 channle UHF's because there are 80 channels.

However there are 3 channels reserved for future use at the moment leaving 77 Channels

The missing ones are 61, 62 and 63 as guard channels for channels 22 and 23 which are for data only.
