G'day there. Does anyone have any experience with the effective battery life for SPOT. In other words, approx how long will it run for before new batteries are needed?

I was away for 21 days recently and used two sets of LI batteries in my Spot tracker. It was used all day every day bar one. My son then took it the New Zealand and the second set of batteries died after a couple of days. So probably 23 days in all for two sets of batteries.

I recently got 14 days out of the LI batteries, turned off overnight with approximatley 10 hours use a day. Went flat the night I forgot to turn it off and it was under cover (no sat coverage). I used alkaline batteries and so far have got 5 days running and all fine. At the price of lithium to alkaline batteries, I reckon alkaline seem to be better value for money.

Last year on a trip I got approximately 30 days at around 6-8 hours per day. Recent trip I changed batteries after about 20 days, similar usage but I did forget to turn it off one night.

Hi poitr
I have used mine for about 35 days, on average 12 hours a day, and still had life in the Lithiums.
Cheers

My Spot 1 gets quite a few weeks out of the specified Lithiums and at best 48 hours out of Alkalines.
Useage is anything from about 4 hours per day to never turned off.

Poitr,
I have the original SPOT and can easily get 12 months out of a set of Li batteries. During winter I would have it on every day for up to 4 months and during summer 4 to 5 weeks at a time.
The second generation SPOT is not battery friendly.

Their website says you must use Lithium and if in tracking mode expect 7 days with clear skis and half that with worse reception conditions.
This is for Msgr 2, not Spot Connect.
