Hi Ray
We own a 2008 auto petrol X-Trail that we have been towing a Camp-O-Matic O/R camper trailer and have no probs. with pulling it. We did raise it a little under 3' with heaver springs and fitted a higher Hayman Reese draw bar, which levelled it out and gave us more ground clearance.
This also gavel us a smoother ride both on an off road.
I don't think you should have any worries pulling a Jayco penguin with it especially diesel as it would have more lower gear grunt than the petrol model.
we also like it for the amount stowage space we have for all the bits and pieces.
we have had comments like " you got here with that set-up" etc.
it all comes down to how you tackle the situation!

We have sold the C-O-M and are awaiting delivery of an Ultimate .

good luck
Ed

I wouldn't buy a diesel auto trail for towing. The tow linit was downgraded to 1350kgs - I think because of the automatic transmission. It does not have the CVT that the petrol vehicles have. The manual diesel Xtrail has the usual 2000kg towing capacity.

I took my Xtrail petrol Auto to Cape York, towing a Tvan. No problems at all.

Gday Steve,
The issue here is that Ray is looking at a diesel auto Xtrail (not a petrol) which has a different auto gearbox to yours and has a tow limit of 1350kg instead of 2000kg.

I have a 2006 petrol manual. No problems , now has 11100km on the clock still on original spark plugs.

I do not recommend the CVT at all. The normal auto is ok.

Cheers

Huh?????

Did any of you read the original question????

He's not buying a petrol vehicle. He only wants info about an automatic diesel Xtrail.

As I tried to tell you twice above, the vehicle he wants has a downloaded tow capacity and it does not have the CVT.

This has become another Exploroz thread where you get a heap of useless replies.

I guess its all irrelevant because the original poster has shot through - never bothered responding to any replies anyway.......

Mate I have the 2010 TD X-trail in a manual for work. It tows our boats fine and has on occassion towed my Kimberley Kamper LE without a drama. The manual is rated to tow 2000kg. It returned 10.2lt per 100k towing the KK.

I haven't had any experience with the auto.

Regards

good to see, some good feed back on an s.u.v.
I am a bit biased on the diesel ,petrol issue. The cost of on a diesel may make petrol a more viable option in the lighter end of 4x4
just my thoughts....good luck
