Hi all, about to do a trip down the West Coast in early October and am trying to find out if a 20i Generator will run a dometic roof aircon, I particularly like the lightweight.

Yes it will. I have a Dometic 1900 on the roof and also have accidentally left the hot water heater on and it went too.
Good unit.

When I first tried my Honda20i I did the same and wondered why it was reving it's ring out. Tried the jug and it overloaded it. Kinda said under my breath "bloody crap Hondas" Restarted it and ran it to charge up the onboard battery and after a while it calmed down, it was then the penny dropped about the water heater. It will run the air and the jug but does struggle a bit. Bob

Hi Roamin Oz, the Honda starts and runs our Dometic Cal136, but on really hot days it can trip off. Restarting it is usually enough, and as we don't holiday in the tropics in summer i wouldn't consider carrying the weight and size of a large genny. However we have only used ours a very few times for the air conditioner and that was in January 2005! When we stop, we want to enjoy the surroundings, so find sitting outside in the shade is pleasant enough rather than be shut inside the caravan under the air con. Nights are usually cool enough and we have a 12 v fan if needed once we come inside. This draws very little power.

EU20i,
$1699 at the current
Adelaide 2011 Caravan Camping & Off Road Road Show with
Cover
Security Cable
Magna Cart 68kg Folding Trolley
Extended warranty to 5 years.
A lot less than my $2299 of umpteen years ago with 1 year warranty? with no cover, cable, cart, or 5 year warranty.
But then again, its been there for me when the a/c needs it.

Yes..... it will run the AC at 25 degrees. But do you want to run the acwhen it is 25 degrees outside the caravan?
It will NOT run it at 40 degrees. This is when you want to run the air conditioner.

Some people have success with the Honda 20i, others find they can't handle hot days.
If you want to be sure - buy a Yamaha 2.4kva unit or a Honda 3kva.
Though they are bigger heavier and more expensive

You won't need aircon on the west coast in October. January maybe, February yes, but not October.
Cheers, Tony
