Hello all
This is a continuation of a previous thread where I emailed RACV about the harsh restrictions on caravans where the majority of caravanners would not know they are covered. I have not had a reply from them and Dennis from the caravanners forum wants to do a story and guess what ?? they did not reply to him.
I think it is very poor P/R that they will not answer our concerns regarding a product they are selling us that we cannot use because of the small print in their policy.
I encourage all forum members to contact RACV or whatever motoring organisation they belong to, to request they bring there policys up to date and in line with the size of caravans that we are purchasing
Any vans over 18' or over 7'6" are not covered by total care

It may make more sense if you put a link to your previous thread.

Hello Shaker
Sorry but it was a thread in the Grey Nomads and caravanners forum
This is the thread

Hello all

I have just sent another email to RACV regarding the above

Hello Team
Further to my previous feedback below, I have checked the sizes on the
Concept brand of caravans and all of their vans from 15'6" are 9'6" in
height and those from 17' are 7'9" wide so therefore none of these vans
would be covered by roadside care, extra care, or total care .
I think these policy's need to be looked at and adjusted, and done quickly
as possible because from my perspective nobody who has a caravan and your
care products is not covered
Please could you forward this to your management or Board of Directors for
action

Please help by sending your own email and bombard their server to hopefully get some action

I guess from their point of veiw for the price they charge for cover there has to be a limit to what weight/size they tow. If you include large caravans then they should include 5th wheelers, then motor homes, buses etc. I think there limits are based on the weight they can pick up/ tow with their standard trucks. Friends of ours have a 5th wheeler and were complaining about RACV not covering them, but to be fair, to transport this thing would need heavy haulage. Some Racv centres tow trucks are only big enough for a stanard car so they legally cant tow/pick up a large van.
I agree, the right thing to do is to reply and tell you why they can't/won't cover you but if their policy states a limit then I guess that is it. You say they should get up to date with size etc but where do they draw the line and how much more would you pay to cover it???

Hello josh
The RACV was set up to be a motoring body but now it has become more corporate and concentrating on buildings and golf courses.
Their limits are more based on size but the majority of vanners now are getting bigger vans that are over 18' so the motoring bodies need to cover more than the pop tops.
With the profits they are making some more should go back to the members

It doesn't sound like these guys are getting better with time,i stopped using them years ago as i was always paid up to the total care believin i'd always be covered to what there terms and conditions stated,I was caught up in Mildura,Holden crapped out and way over 100kms from home,They allowed 5days in hotel until the vehicle was repaired, not sure what it is now...I needed another night and the lady i originally spoke to said thats ok you hav three nights left if they havnt fixed the vehicle in time...So when i called back the lady said i had no nights left...Been in it for 3 years previous and never had to use them....

Anyway ive been burnt and learnt so its just basic cover for me...

Seems like that most people do not read all the fine print and dont know they are not properly covered
Suppose we can just keep biting and hopefully many bites will wake them up

Hello all
Further to my previous post about this matter I have received a reply from them, see below and it looks like they are at least looking into it and we will hear more later.
Ken

Dear Mr Thomas,

Your email exchange with RACV on the above subject has been passed on to me.

I agree with your observation regarding the size of caravans that are sold today - and I will ask the relevant manager to commence a review of our products that cover caravans (Extra Care and Total Care).

As it is, our towing equipment is not specified to the levels required for larger caravans. So, if/when our product review confirms the number of caravans longer than 6.7m (ie the maximum covered by Total Care), our solution will - in all likelihood - come at an additional cost to members with these vehicles.

I will keep you informed on progress of this project. It is likely that I will have an update in November, after we have completed (a) an assessment of the number of vehicles in question, (b) the location of recent breakdowns and (b) the costs associated of providing service to these vehicles.

Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention.

Yours sincerely,
