Hi Folks,
This has been sitting at the bottom of the tool box since I bought my second-hand Jayco van about 4 years ago. I am unaware of what it is for, and don't want to throw it out, as if I do, some use will suddenly appear - maybe.
I am sure someone out there knows what it is. (Hope the link and embedded images work - first time I've done this.)
Cheers
David

Could it be one of those gadgets supplied to hold the fridge door open when in storage?

It looks a little like a fencing tool to bend ties round a main wire at a star picket.
I make something similar out of flat stainless steel for farming mates.
Just a thiught.

Hi There,
Seems this is a bigger mystery than I thought it would be.
Some good suggestions but I'm not sure they are correct.
I will see what the next few days bring.

Hi Dave,
Its a locating clip on an MSA brand self rescuer that is normally used in U/G mining. Its missing the overcam tightening side of the clip though.

Hi Joe,
MSA is a company that sell safety equipment glasses, goggles dust masks etc as
well the self rescuers.
When I was in the mines rescue we learned to rebuild them when they hit their expiry date.

Hey Thanks Wilko,
I guess I can safely throw it out, or dream up some other use for it.
As I'm not into mining, I won't need it for that.

Dream up another use for it. Looks to me like it could be used for an oven tray handle for a small stove.

Image Could Not Be Found This isnt an MSA self rescuer ( i couldnt find a
pic) but the clip on top of this one has an over cam arrangement to keep the outer container water tight. The MSA version attaches further down each side.
A self rescuer (when worn) allows the wearer a certain amount of time to get to out of an atmosphere that is toxic or lacking in O2 to either a fresh air base or to safety in an U/G
mine

This thread has got me thinking maybe we could start a "What is this" segment once a week. The Aussie bush has many interesting artefacts from days gone by displayed in bush museums, all over. Maybe of a Saturday night when most of us drop by for a look.
Fred.
