Here we are, on our trip to
Cape York, with friends Vivien C, and Ray, when the mighty Patrol goes into limp mode. But there is no computer, so we are now looking at fuel.
Limped out of Hadden Corner, headed for
Windorah at 40-50km/h.
Local mechanic looked at it the next morning, asked what we had done.
Usual stuff, new main filter, blew fuel lines out backwards. He found another, at the reserve tank, and another at the injector pump.
No better, looks like a new injector pump. Oh tbe $$$$$
Limp another 320 km (627 total) to
Longreach
Found Peter Hirst Engineering there. 1 1/2 hre later Patrol going better than ever.
The offending filter is 1/2 size of a filter, and is situated top front, of the injector pump.
Easilty picked up as there is a metal fuel line into it, between the motor and the pump, there is a banjo, below that is a spring, and underneath that is the mesh filter.
LITTLE MONGREL THING !
Now you are clean.
Now we are happy.
Now we head to
Cloncurry Rodeo, this weekend, then off to the Tip.

If you own a Patrol TD6 then get this little fella checked.
The offending mesh filter

Im very suprised Bucky that you didnt already know about the mesh filter, You have been on this
forum now a fair while and even I have seen this issue arrise a few times lol, and Im a Toyota man. Glad you managed to fix the issue and it didnt cost you a small fortune having to rebuild a pump which wouldnt have been the problem anyway. At least now you can continue on your merry way to the tip. Happy safe travelling...........

What can I say, never Too old to be shown new tricks.
Funny thing, a mate if
mine from Kalgoorlie got caught the same way, 1/2 a dozen years back. And that hed him, and a lot if other mechanics stuffed for weeks.
Half a dozen years back, when he told me, I did not own the Patrol, it was a Navaramtwin cab ute, and when it stopped you called a tow truck.
I suppose it did not sink in as I did not have a Patrol then.
One thing is for sure, that little mongrel thing will be on my yearly
check list
Cheers
Bucky

LOL yeah sounds like myself have read things in the past and then had the same issue, then when its been fixed by some one else I slap myself in the head and think ""you moron"" I remember reading about that now. Anyway at least you can continue on your way and I doubt the old faithfull patrol will let you down anymore, if it was a 3 litre then my last comment I wouldnt be too sure on lol.....Cheers Steve.........................

There is no intercoolermon Patrol, yet.
Y61 model turbo'd only, running 12 lb boost.
I have had an intercooler ready to go on for 18 months, just never got around to ie, as it is real big, and will require substancial work, on bonnet fora WRX scoop.
Cheers Bucky

For the guys with the 4.2s This filter was sort of fitted at random, some have them and some don't,
mine's a 2002 model and has one fitted but a mate of
mine with the same year model hasn't. The only way to tell is to have a look.
Cheers Dave.
