Hi all,
Has anyone out there completed the GRR crossing in the last week or so. We plan to attempt it shortly and were wondering about the conditions. We are hearing conflicting sories as we travel...currently in
Darwin and would like to hear from anyone who has been across, especially if they were towing anything. We have a wind up camper and have been told that taking it easy we should be O.K and then others have said they have heard that the corrugations shook a Landcruiser to bits!!
Just curious about it all.

Hi Cooks,
Did this road about two weeks ago and it was fine better than some of the sealed roads I’ve travelled. A couple of corrugated sections but these were only mild. The thing to watch out for on this road are the hidden dips, there’s a few of them and they can do damage.
If you were going up
Mitchell Falls way, the road up via Drysdale isn’t to bad, however once on the track to
Mitchell Falls its much rougher. If you were heading this way I would advise that you leave your camper at Drysdale as other seem to do.
Enjoy your trip!

Hi Cooks
Friends travelled through towing off road caravan finishing trip over the weekend. They were travelling east to west, and found the eastern section the worst they have ever seen it and very slow going. They are used to travelling the rough outback routes. From the report above perhaps some work has been done there too. The western end was much better, and with a
grader working, the final stretch from the Windjana-
Tunnel Creek turnoff was freshly graded and smooth.
Anne from
Drysdale River Station recently gave a report on the roads there.

We crossed the GRR towing a "dirt road" caravan and didn't have any problems. That was from 20 July to 1 Aug (we also went upto
Mitchell Falls and
Honeymoon Bay)
Could get up to about 75 kph in sections and down to around 40 kph in the rougher, deeper corrugated bits - they were evil and we thought that the van would be in pieces, but nothing dislodged.
River crossings were ok, but - yes those dips can sneak up on you and not all are signed.
