Map: Dunk Island
Work to reopen popular walking tracks on Dunk Island, off far north Queensland, has been stepped up after pressure from the Queensland Opposition.
Queensland Environment Minister Vicky Darling says State Government rangers have arrived on the island to survey the damage caused by Cyclone Yasi in January.
Contractors are expected to begin clearing the walking tracks next week so the park can reopen to tourists and daytrippers.
The work will take about five weeks.

Walked the 35km Thorsborne Trail on nearby Hinchinbrook a month ago. The contractors there did a good job of not only clearing the track but also "upgrading" the trail to a better standard than pre Yasi, guess the same will happen on Dunk.
