Hi all,
we are looking to buy an F250 extra cab to tow our gooseneck horse float with.
Our goosey is not heavy 1800kgs plus 600kg of horse.

Just wondering what the fuel consumption is like with the 5.4l petrol f trucks.
As you can see we don't really need the big 7.3l diesel and the 4.2 diesels are hard to find and cost more then the newer 5.4 models that have less kms on them.

We currently have a 4.2 turbo diesel cruiser ute but need more seats.

Also considered converting the petrol f250 to lpg - anyone done this?

Any comments would be very helpful.
Cheers.

Can't comment on the 5.4 L petrol V8 - but we had a 5.8 L EFI petrol V8 in our F-150 and it could pass anything on the road EXCEPT A SERVO!

20 LHK on ULP and 26 LHK on LPG.

And thats NOT towing anything!

Hi Wez,

I have had petrol / LPG LC100, diesel LC200 and Diesel F250 (7.3), just to let you kknow where I am coming from.

We did the numbers for towing with LPG and descovered that consumption goes up so much tha,t the cost per kilometer travelled is the same as high octane ULP and diesel. The gainis when not towing.

So if you look at the cost of conversion and compare to kilometers travelled without towing, you might find it is not a cost effective equasion. You have to go a long way to get you money back. Somwe times it is a hard pill to swallow.

Good luck.

Landcruiser towing a 2100kg caravan on flat level ground is 15 for diesel, 21 ULP and about 26 for LPG. LPG needs to be below half the ULP cost to make cost effective.
