Hi all,

I know this is a left field question but What do you like about Oz?

I like the fact that we arent overpopulated (like most of the western world). I can get away from the bad parts of Aust (mobile phones, ab circle pro's, baseball caps on backwards and carbon tax) and relax and enjoy nature with a warm camp fire with noone else around.

I pray we dont stuff it up

Cheers Wilko

Wilko,

Not many places left on the planet where you can be totally isolated and alone with the nearest person more than a couple of hundred kilometres away in any direction (and I mean on dry land there).

Not many places left where you can be the first set of European eyes to look over a place.

Not many places left where the night sky is crystal clear and illuminated by starlight alone. No smog, no diffuse light from population centres.

Yep it's truly got a "Million Star" rating this country of ours.

Cheers Mick

G'day all
Nicely put Mick, but as it was also qouted in a reply ~ there are many out there quite happy to stuff it up !

I had the pleasure of being in the company of a couple from Port Melbourne for a few days last week, these folk had never before been into the inland Pilbara, so it was all seen by their eyes for the very first time, they are somewhere in my age range ~ sixty something.

They were quite amaized at the possible fact they actually may well have walked on the ancient ridge tops of the Ophthalmia Range where no modern man had walked previously.

After all the Hickman Meteorite Crater was only discovered in 2007 ~ not by ground based exploration but by using modern technology ~ Google Earth search.

A Petroglyph site we visited together had the lady quite visibly emotional, just to realize an ancient race of people had left their stories carved in the red rock of the Pilbara ~ possibly thousands of years ago and modern man seems compelled to destroy !!!

Hi Mick, I was sitting in in a cave yesterday, 15km's from the roadhouse, staring at the scorch marks on the ceiling, and looking at the remnants of an old campfire, and painting on the wall, contemplating how often that cave would have been used for shelter over thousands of years. People very rarely ever get to this spot these days, and it's a fairly humbling experience to be there .

I think Mick O's next post just about sums this country up. We have a really diverse territory and if you can't find a "home" in it then your not looking. Also. where else will a bloke that doesn't know you still call you "mate". Definately a lucky country. Cheers, Bob

Now aint that the truth hey.
Quite often....when I see sumthin ...or hear sumthin...that is SO wrong..I muse to myself that there needs to be a penalty for the theiving of oxygen in this country...coz there is a bloody lot of oxygen thieves runnin around loose on this island...thats fer sure.

G/Day

I reckon that I'm one of the fortunate Aussies to be born in the 1940s.

We have seen a lot of change in this period some good and bad.

Through my working life I have worked in the Outback and on Coastal Areas

I have done my best to avoid living in cities, even though we have spent the last 40 odd years on the Gold Coast.

This recent home we built is on the edge of the G/Coast so we have the best of both worlds.

Currently the Cook and I are on the verge of retirement and are looking forward to doing more extended tours in the Outback Australia.

I remember the first time the Cook experienced the Outback, she was Gobsmacked re: the beauty of the bush and the people who live there.

We are so fortunate to live in a country like Australia and still have some freedom to go to different places where the bulk of the population has not set foot.

This life style we all enjoy will gradually vanish, and most of us know why.

So instead of waiting for that to happen Get Out There Now And Enjoy The Freedom Of Our Aussie Heritage.

Cheers

I"ve travelled quite a bit of the world and honestly, the less people who know we are down here the better. Instead of spreading the word about Australia, just let everyone know that its a hell of a long way and the flight is a horror. I don't know an Australian who doesn't think it's a pretty awesome place. We are only that way because we have less people. The Aboriginals had paradise for 40,000 years....poor buggers. Mike

The amazing feeling of being on a narrow road with the thread of bitumen disappearing in the distance ahead and behind and being totally alone . No vegetation , no trees just gibber rock and the sky for 360 degrees. Someone once said to me - what's out in the desert? it's boring !! HELLOOO!!
