To go via Windorah, then up to Bedourie would be shorter again, and probably the most direct route, using the better roads.

If you like bitumen, then go via Longreach, Winton and Boulia. But that's quite a bit further.

Can't remember most of it.

Dean, Your problem is that you have both the Simpson Desert and Lake Eyre in your path.

Other than going across the Simpson Desert track via Birdsville, the Plenty/Donohue Highway starting from just north of Alice Springs and via Boulia is the most direct route. The road is unsealed but formed and with loose stones but OK for a 4WD driven to conditions. It would be rather rough on a 2WD sedan.

Otherwise you would need to go South to Lyndhurst and then up to Innamincka before heading West to Brisbane. Again, some unsealed roads but of good condition.

To stay on sealed bitumen roads you would need to go South to Port Augusta then head through Broken Hill and Cobar to Brisbane. A long route.

Cheers
Allan
