Hi Thomo, I have a 97 80 series. It does like the fuel , I recently got 4.5 kms per litre on and outback trip with camper trailer & 6 kids plus 2 aduklts. It is an auto with the 4500 moter in it. I got new muffler on it that did improve fuel eco. Unloaded I get about 5.5 kms to thr litre. That empties both tanks at around 700 ks. Most of the time I put sub tank on at about 500 ks. It was brillant as a towing vechile. You wont have any problems with as a tow vechile.

thomo we have a 97 80 series, and like bmw1 we get about the same fuel consumption when towing, ours is dual fuel. As a tow vehicle it's fantastic. We have towed a 17ft poptop caravan up to woods point recently with no probs. We also use it to tow our vintage car on a trailer up to meets, most recently up to Mildura...no probs at all. I use it 85% of the time and love it, easy to drive in traffic and on the highway.

cheers

Thanks for the replys
Im not sure whether to get a deisel or petrol ive got a 75 series with a 1 hz but i want a 80 for the misses to drive and to pull the van around on holidays now and then, the 1hz in mine has done 300000klms and never had a problem and but its pretty slow going with the van and it sucks the juice ,only getting about 800klms max out of 180 litres when towing.and if i get a deisel ill have to turbo it so it will pull the van decent and im aware of the problems of turboing a 1hz, Im thinking the petrol might be better because it will mainly be driven around town most of the time.

Around town it's chalk and cheese. The petrol is far and away easier to drive than a standard diesel. Turbo will help diesel but the cost will buy quite a few litres of juice. Used to have a diesel and when time came to change I went petrol - 1996 model 80 manual. On annual holidays we regularly get about 17 mpg - family of 4 and roof rack. Consumption increases if a lot of low range work is involved.

Hi Thomo, mine's a 93 80 and I get 100km for every 20Litres. It use to be around 17L but with all the equipment I've added.....
The cars about 2.5 tonnes and 3.3 full laden for a trip.
Excellent motor though. I'd prefer a diesel for towing.
RegardsNice southerly coastal fishing trip someday.
