Power for Jayco Hawk

The 240v power converter / battery charger has just blown in my '05 Hawk. I was waiting for it to go but I can't get any 'independent' advice on what to replace it with, if you know what I mean. Whatever product I ask about, they just try and sell it to me.

I don't have a real lot of money, which means no REDARC gear for me, however I was wondering if a CTEK XS15000 would do everything I need it to?

I have one AGM and I intend adding another shortly so I am happy with the charging capability of the CTEK however will it function as a converter if I am plugged into 240v at a park or 12v when plugged into a genny?

As I said, whoever I ask just tries to sell something to me so I would value the opinions of anyone who cares to express them...

Cheers,

New models use the Setec Converter. Not sure of cost but would be a few hundred.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not real keen on the SETEC, I would prefer to update to something with a bit better track record.

We bypassed ours with a projecta charger. Can't recall it's specs but our auto elec talked us into it straight away. From memory the ctek are a bit pricier.

Thanks for replying.

I looked at the Projecta, the local battery guy here is pretty keen on them but they look a bit roughly built when compared to the CTEK units.

Can you use the Projecta to do the power conversion? Thats the bit I'm really interested in.

Hi Norm, Mark from Ballina, have Jayco Dove 05, mine blew too, replaced it with CTEK, have not had one problem since, bit dear but worth it, they codition the battery with cyclic programs etc, was pretty easy to wire in. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mark. Was the CTEK able to do everything that the old converter did?

I'm happy to pay the $350 or so but I don't want to spend more than double that on a REDARC that does the same thing. When I rang REDARC, he started me on something at a few grand and it was a real battle to get him to be realistic. I'm sure its good gear, but I just can't see the value for money...

Cheers,
