Just wondering if anyone has a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2011? I know nothing about these things, and was pondering the idea. Are they a light 4wd, how are they at towing up hills, ground clearance, comfort on long drives etc.
thanks,
John

The Unlimited is the four door (long wheel base version of mine. Its done 100,000klms all over Oz mostly towing a camper trailer. They weigh in at around 1800kilos, mine has towed the camper all over tasmania with no problems (even towed the camper through the Jefferies track) standard they have more clearance than most , lift them like I have and they can go anywhere, No they are not as comfortable as my mates LC 200 but horses for courses, its all reletaive.

John the Jk Unlimited is a light to Medium sized four wheel drive that has plenty of power to tow a full sized camper or small van ideally under 1.8 Tonne. They are extremely capable offroad in stock form and even more so when modified. Ground clearance is marginal so benefit from a 50 Mm lift and oversized tyres. (as do most 4x4's)
I find the ride comfortable & sporty, not soft like a big Patrol. Take one for a drive to see if it fits your needs as they are completely different to Jap cars.
Cheers Craig.......

Go for a diesel if you want better range out of the fuel tank. I have a diesel Jeep Grand and its better than the petrol motors although not as common. I've driven a diesel Wrangler and found it excellent but lacking in comfort. Mike

You'll find that the 2011 model has a revamped interior, which is a big improvement on the 2010 and earlier models.
The petrol autos are the pick of the bunch for reliability and ease of servicing etc...

We had a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon auto, we travelled around Oz towing a 18 foot off road pop top, including a trip to
Cape York!
It definately didn't like the mountains of the eastern states but other than that it didn't put a foot wrong. Having said it didn't like the mountains it did have MTT's on board and had been raised 2" with a lift kit so the gear was "out" as my husband would say AND the caravan was right on the maximum tow weight allowed. When we got to the off roading spots she was unstoppable, we would challenge anyone to do better - we had the full diff locks and sway bar disconnects etc. Too technical for this little blonde duck!
Sadly Jeep is no longer with us as we wanted to update to a Spinifex caravan way beyond it's tow capacity. We really miss it - the ride in the new Toyota is sooooo much less agricultural though!
