I am planning a trip to Tassie in September in the Prado. Am I crazy taking a tent or should I use backpackers etc. for accommodation.

If you are use to bitterly cold and wet conditions you will be fine in a tent. Mind you I have seen 4c one morning in Feb and we where only at an elevation of 600m.

G'day Peter, as my fellow jackapoodian says...it can be wet & cold over there.
Tent ? Sure ,but make sure you trust it to keep you dry. If the weather is iffy, maybe
look for alternatives. I dont recall seeing much in the way of backpackers, not outside
the metro areas anyway. Interesting place to visit, let down only by the weather.:))))
cheers......oldbaz.
