Review: Camping Lights

My Article Rating: My Rating 3/5

I came across some LED lights using cree technology. They come as a floodlight or torch. I use 1 floodlight to illuminate my camp-site. It is 10watts and rated at 450 lumen's. It only uses .9 of an amp.No heat and cost about $40.00 on eBay. The best light I have seen. I am currently looking at a 20 watt light which also uses .9 of an amp

Not good at this stuff but am learning. These are in hong kong. I have found them in OZ, They will come up as 240v ac sometimes but if you contact the seller they can do them in 12 0r 24 volt dc. Ask for white as they come in warm white as well which is not as bright. Also type in cree torches and there are some great headlamps. Hope I have helped. Bloody good lights

I would be a bit concerned about someone advertising a 20 watt light that only uses .9 of an amp.

If it's 20 watts it has to use 20 watts of energy, it might be advertising hype and they may be talking about pulse width modulated drivers controlling a 20 watt light using .9 amps.... meaning they are switching the signal on and off very quickly to obtain a theoretical .9 amps.

I can show you a true 10 watt light that out performs a true 30 watt light, the difference is quality and 10 times more expensive.

Be cautious of the advertising hype.

I am not up with the electronic stuff but I know that the lights are very bright and use little power. I have a small 7ah battery and have run one of these 10 watt lights for 5 hours with no problems. I think you are right about the pulsing and I can understand you being sceptical. I have spent lots of money on lighting as I am old and my eyes are going quicker than my hair. I have used these for 2 years and am extremely happy with them. One of these lights will light up a large area with good crisp light. The LED is a square looking globe about a square centimeter in size.

"I am currently looking at a 20 watt light which also uses .9 of an amp"
Unless they have worked out a way to get around the laws of physics a 20W light will use a touch over 1.6Amps @ 12 volts.
EG: Watts divided by Volts equals Amps.
