What type of Brake Controller is best and why?
Would you recommend a particular model?
Is there just two types, Solid and Pendulum?
Would appreciate advice from those who have tried and tested.
Many thanks and great to be part of this fabulous
forum :-)

Here's the difference.
Some you dial up how much brake force you want as in a certain one with a remote head.
It applies the brakes according to that regardless of your speed or rate of deceleration.
A Prodigy or a P3 are a proportional controller.
That means the harder you brake the more pressure it applies to the van brakes.
It also means if you are applying them lightly when rolling up to lights they wont lock the brakes as will the other type if set too hard.
Its a no brainer really
Had a Prodigy for 3 years and no probs whatever. No lockups either

Thank you very much for your advice. I was originally recommended to get a Tekonsha Prodigy so it seems I was on the right track.
Not having owned a caravan before, there is so much to learn and it does get quite confusing.
Thanks again.

I used a prodigy on my Patrol and it worked really
well. I took it out when I traded the car in on a Prado but then couldn't fit it into the Prado. It is sitting in my shed now doing nothing!

That's great it worked really
well.
We are getting electric brakes fitted as part of the contract/purchase price of our caravan so I guess I will leave it to them to supply and install and just make sure that it's a Prodigy. Thank you

Yes I understood that Snoopy but it just seems easier for us to go ahead as we planned as I don't even know where he is located and we would want a warranty and I'm so busy at the moment that we are not doing any LOL around here at the moment. :-) Thanks anyway

To answer the OP's orginal questions.
There are 3 basis types of electic brake controllers.
'Solid state' - Redarc, Hayman Reese etc.
'Pendulum' - Teknosha Voyager - Hayse Lemmerz, Kelsey etc.
'Proportional' New generation Hayes G2, XPS, Tekonsha Primus IQ and HR Guardian IQ.
Then there are the top of the range 'Proportional' controllers, the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 and the latest P3 with more diagnostic features.
The proprtional are true 'Set and Forget' controllers with the Prodigy models being my personal choice over all others.
Cheers, ozjohn.
