I have been in Queensland recently nd looking at vehicles and noticed a lot of vehicles sporting black coloured wheels. Thought t first it was just young guys with old vehicles but the noticed a lot of 00 and 200 series cruisers with them on.
So what is with the black? Turns a nice looking vehicle into something pretty average IMHO

Ruins the look of a good vehicle IMHO

Another thing I would seriously doubt that some of them would meet the weight ratings for the vehicle.

Have seen huge rims with very low profile tyres on Cruisers.

Half of your suspension is in the tyres the manufacturers supply and those things are very hard running. Hit a decent pothole and bang goes a rim. LOL

Agreed. If the black rims dont look bad enough, a 4wd with those low profile tyres
looks even worse. Just a current trend among yuppies & young folk I suspect. I cant
recall seeing any such fittings off the bitumen.......oldbaz.

Nothing wrong with a bit of a change. ( I don't have black rims by the way) but each to there own

Agree with you on the low profile tyres though.

You may find that the black rims on a 200 series are steel for those wanting a non-mag wheel in the bush.

You're right Dave, black wheels are definately in fashion at the moment. I think we can safely say white Sunraysia's are no longer trendy so if you still have a set on you're showing your age ;-)
As for appearance, on many cars they look brilliant particually the alloy one's with polished highlights or beadlocks. Huge range available from the US at the moment. Some cars I agree the black doesn't match the paintwork or barwork at all & look shocking.
My next set of wheels will most likley be black like THESE.
Cheers Craig............

Craig,

Nw those black wheels I agree look good. I made the original comment as we don't see many black wheels in SA, I guess we are a bit backwards over here.
I posed the question because I noticed so many vehicles, late mdel with older drivers when in Queensland so wondered if it was the same everywhere except SA.
We are moving to Queensland in aabout six weeks, new job, new beginning and probably a new2nd hand car.

... and to be really with it you will need a set of those little white figures on your back window showing the configuration of your family.

LEDs around the headlights are going to be law I think. All new cars in Europe have them as a safety measure. They operate automatically, you know the "be safe be seen" business. Mike

I stand corrected, not all have them but most contries are now looking at making them a requirement. The are called DRL's or Daytime Running Lamps. The authourities are looking into it here. Brands like Audi and VW have made them standard equipment. Cheers

Yes the DRL LED's on my new Passat look quite nice

There is a Wrangler driving around my suburb with about 23" rims and little strips of rubber on them. I think it looks rubbish and you know its not going off road. Its like seeing a fully decked out commando warrior wearing pretty high heels :-). Mike

Hi David,

I dont like them either makes the rim look dirty, Its seems very popular with the "harder core" 4x4 guys.

Each to their own but they stand out when they come to the country and theres 1000's of 4wd's with white rims and 1 with black.

Cheers Wilko

Only thing wrong is you have the tyres inside out.

You get better mileage with the white lettering inwards.

Sorry but I dont like the vehicle like that but as you say we are all different.
