New competitor for SPOT?

Hi all,

While doing a bit of Sunday morning web surfing, I came across the following:-

Delorme inReach Pres Release

It seems to have a few features not available on SPOT, including 2-way texting and the ability to use its own GPS feed into an Android phone instead of the battery-guzzling phone's one (at least my HTC's GPS use flattens the battery in short order).

US release date is sometime in October.

Is this type of unit heading towards the end of the 'normal' EPIRB/ELT?

Usual obligatory disclaimer: No connection blah blah (but I do use a SPOT Messenger).
