We are presently caravanning in QLD and would like to spend a few days at Eungella Dam, not sure if the road in is suitable for caravans, ours is a 23ft van pulled by a F250. Is anyone able to let me know what the road is like? Thank you in anticipation. Margaret B

If you are coming in from Mackay the last section of road up to Eungalla Town is fairly steep and narrow but should not be a problem for your rig, stop at the Pinnacle Pub on the way in for a pie (YUM).
The dam is West of the Town and is full at the moment, best to visit during the week as the trailbike hoons can make it a bit noisy and dangerous at weekends.

Can't speak for redclaw in Eungella Dam but do know there's good redclaw in Peter Faust dam about half hour west (good 2 lane bitumen) from Proserpine --- Proserpine is about 150klms on Bruce H'way north of Mackay --- Is a c'van Park at bottom of dam wall and would be a lot warmer than Eungella at this time of year.

the road in is fine for caravans, was there 2 weeks ago and come here a lot, yep there are some big redclaw there, some about same as a size 9 boot, some small barra there but mainly sooty grunter,, it can get windy but the camping area is huge so you can always find somewhere out of the breeze,no power but can get drinking water there.the cows and horses are friendly and will visit your campsite too,, definitely avoid weekends if you can, it can be a bit like that old midnight oil song "redneck wonderland",,,we always go thru the week and quite often find we have the whole place to ourselves,
not many places left where you can camp with dogs and have a big fire
enjoy

Thanks for all the info, we were unable to get into Peter Faust dam camp, Kanga camp, until October, all booked until then, we have moved on but will definitely put Eungella Dam on the agenda for next years trip, Thanks again
