I am sure I read a month or so ago that the Simpson had been handed back. My problem is I contacted the Central Lands Council and they know nothing about it, so from who and where do
i get this permission? A phone number would be great, and I can go back to work and earn the money to go :-)

You could try the Mt Dare Hotel.
http://www.mtdare.com.au/ Should be able to give you all the answers that you need. Cheers Mick

Which part of the
Simpson Desert are you referring to?
The
Simpson Desert is in two states & a Territory, the SA side is managed by DENR the Qld side is managed by Qld National Parks & the Territory side is a combination of private, Crown & pastoral land.

That is how I always thought it was. It certainly was every other time I have crossed it.
But I was sure I heard on local S.A. News that it had been handed back to the Traditional Owners, no fees at this stage to cross it but you had to get permission. With a bit of luck I have heard wrong, guess I'm not likely to see anyone out there looking for permit holders, other than Desert Passes.
:-)

Tanks or the info Robin, I missed this post when it was first put up. Interesting that it is the Arrernte peoples from Central Australia that have had the land handed to them, yet when I contacted the Central Lands Council a week ago, no one knew anything about that area..
Guess I will just go with my Deserts Pass, along with a copy of all the info I have about trying to find out who to get permission through and leave it at that :-)

After reading post 86844 you would have to wonder. Who would have ever thought boating would be banned on Lake Eyre, walking on Ayers Rock, etc, the list goes on.
Could they possibly ban 4wd's from the Simpson ?
Who knows !

then we are the generation to say enough is enough. If we don't we will finish up like England. A country imploding on itself after 15 years of wrong decisions by Govt.
This is a great country and sometimes people have to take a stand. Looking forward to be a part of it if need be.
