Wildflowers North of Perth

Could anyone tell me of any good sites to see mass displays of wildflowers North / North East of Perth. Maybe around Paynes Find, Yalgoo Mt Magnet etc... Thanks

Good day Peter,

We have been travelling the Coastal Highway for the last few weeks towards Perth, currently at Geraldton.
Flowers have been spectacular before and since Shark Bay.
Everyone's telling us the same brilliant displays abound everywhere this season, including inland.
Get your wheels on and head out to see!

Hi Peter

Suggest anywhere on Gt. Northern Hwy from Mullewa down to Dalwallinu - and in particular a little spot called CANNA.

On the Midlands road - Mingenew down to Moora, plus any area in between or either side would just about cover it - if you are limiting your travels to below Geraldton.

As suggested above- Rothsay - taking off from Perenjori is on my list for this year. I believe it gets into 4x4 country on that run - the council has all the info you would need.

Enjoy - Regards, Phil

Girl from work & her husband went around Paynes Find last week end and said that the flowers were spectacular. Word of warning though- the tracks can be very soft they were by themselves and got hopelessly bogged and it took them a number of hours to extract themselves.

We have just spent a week based at Carnamah and the wild flowers are full on, Perenjori would be a better base, drove out that way most days. Camel Soak, (free camp), Coorow cheap Caravan Park and the Community Farm is worth a look at for the wild flowers, all that area is worth a look. The Wreath Flowers should be out in a week or two, Perenjori is the best place for that.

Hi Huchsky

I was just having another look at the Perenjori mud map I collected last time through and I was rethinking the '4x4' comment I made further up in this thread.

There seems to be a decent road to a copper mine running out past Rothsay, a fair bit lower than the '4 wheel drive only' track which I assume to be the original road.

Did you by any chance head out that way?

The reason I ask is there will be two vehicles in my group the weekend after next and only one is a 4x4 and I don't want to take chances on one not making it that far out, they would be better off on solid ground in other areas if unsure I guess?

Regards - Phil

Hi Phil,
We only went on the first part of the Warriedar Copper Mine Rd as far as Camel Soak turn off, the road to Rothsay(not the 4x4 track) is an Heritage Trail, sutable for most, Heavy trucks etc weather permitting rain can make some parts muddy?looked like a fair graded road to me. Just give Perenjori Shire a ring on 0899731002 or the Tourist Centre 0899731105. Perenjori Tourist promote the Rosthsy heritage Trail, the Road does continue on to the Warridar Copper Mine.

Thanks Hutch - I did actually call the Perenjori office prior to my query - I was a bit concerned that the response was unconvincing - rather vague and not reassuring at all.

Will assess the situation when I get up there.

Thanks for the follow up.

Cheers - Phil
