Has any one else picked up in the announcement of the Queensland Government overnight that they are about to commence "consultation" with a view to declaring the Georgina and Diamantina Rivers and Eyre Creek as 'wild rivers" to prevent unsustainable development. I wonder what that really means? An election soon perhaps? The Queensland Government are strong supporters of mining. It looks like they might be mining the green vote.

Yes I heard it this morning - was expecting it. Just recently they did submissions for the Cooper as
well. The Diamantina & Georgina (and Eyre Creek) goes into the consultation process now. The paperwork on it is enormous and quite difficult to read. I had been considering since the beginning of the year whether or not I would do a submission.
I am not convinced that 'wild rivers' is the way to go for these beautiful rivers.

Hi Ruth D. Thanks for your response. I am a bit surprised at the lack of interest in this thread. Lots of readers but no comments until yours.
I had not heard about the Cooper already being under way and wondered why it had not been included in this announcement.
I don't understand what "development" they want to control. The area is all cattle stations and national parks, isn't it?

Hi Kevin, development includes irrigation for cotton.
