We stayed at Mt Carbine Caravan Park (Camps 6 book number 210 Queensland) and were most impressed. The owner/operators were very friendly and helpful and had a wealth of knowledge about the surrounding areas. The sites are large, some with concrete slabs. We had a tent site which again was large. There are fire pits and chopped firewood is available. The amenities are the cleanest I have seen at any camping ground. The cost was $14 for two for unpowered and $18 for powered which must be the best bargain around. To top this, they offer free storage for vans for those visiting
Cape York. If you are heading this way we can thoroughly recommend this facility.

$14 unpowered & $18 powered with clean
toilets as
well. Plus chuck in free van storage.
That is so cheap.

I can't believe that price. It has got me.
$14 for hot showers clean
toilets & a bit of security & your 200 yards from the pub.
The wife & I spent over $20 having smoko at Skybury this morning & about $20 on fuel getting up there & back.

This is exactly why I thought I would share with those who read the
forum and if you are up that way (heading to
Cooktown or the Cape) you may decide to stay at Mt Carbine as
well - they deserve to be
well supported for supplying such good service and facilities. How they make a profit beats me! We would be happy to pay these costs every night rather than look for
free camping but sadly often the costs are far greater. Tonight we are
free camping at Rocky Creek War
Memorial Park near
Atherton and delighted with the availability of this area and the facilities provided. We are having our car serviced in
Atherton so will be putting money back in to the
Atherton business community.
