We are exploring the different 4WD rental companies and we are curious as to which ones are the best. I've found that some companies don't really let you do much in their vehicles and we would like to take some really good
Treks through
Flinders Ranges. I've looked at the company called "Getbout Oz". Does anybody know of this company and their reputation? Would anybody have a company they would like to recommend?? Thank you much! I can't wait to get out there!

Hi Stacie, you may be interested to know that you can cover some or all of the excess of your
hire vehicle very cheaply by taking out travel insurance for the nominated driver.
Rental Comanies will offer you nil excess if you pay a usually exhorbitant daily rate
on top of the daily hire rate. Travel Insurers offer an amount towards the hirers
excess if a claim is made on you after an accident. Freely available on line from
Cover 1 & others. You may, of course, elect not to pay extra excess cover from
either source. I cant recomend a particular hirer. Make sure you inspect the car
closely & note any damage, scuff marks etc & record them on the agreement & have
it signed off by the hire co before you take the vehicle..cheers....oldbaz.

Excellent tip oldbaz! That is much appreciated and I am currently looking into it. Yes - much cheaper than paying the excess at the rental place. :o)

Our experience with hiring 4WDs hire would suggest you choose very carefully. Go to
http://www.notgoodenough.org/ and type in the name of the companies you are considering hiring from.
Some companies have been known to hire out vehicles that were not suitable for driving to the shops let alone going bush.
Best of luck.

Some hire companies have questionable conditions as
well. I was talking to some people in the Flinders who had hired a Troopy and the company had stipulated that under no circumstances should the tyre pressure be below 45 psi. They were liable for tyre damage and the company was helping it along. People not familiar with the correct thing to do could easily get bogged in soft sand or have the tyres ripped apart on some of the gravel roads.
