Not a 4WD question but I'm seeking helpful info from Perth locals. I'm driving over to Perth via Ayers Rock from central Qld in Sept and have arranged for an old bushie mate of mine ( 80 yrs old) to fly over and drive home with me . My problem is that he gets to Perth a few days before me and has to get to Armadale on his own . He's been told that it will cost him $100 by taxi . Is there an easy , cheaper alternative , bearing in mind he is an old bushie ( used to drive Birdsville mail for Tom Kruse but thats another story ...) and multiple interchanges will confuse him . He arrives at 6.00 pm .

Gidday

You have hit on a problem that faces many travellers to and from Perth. The airport is not well served by public transport.

There is an airport shuttle bus that connects to the city (google it for info on timetables and fares) and from there he could catch a train to Armadale which is about a 40-minute journey from memory.

I would make an enquiry about that $100 taxi fare. seems a bit steep given that it is only about 30km and half an hour from the airport to armadale travelling mostly on a highway through the outer suburbs. It certainly would be the easiest and I figure that sometimes you can't put a price on convenience.

Of course maybe someone on here could give him a lift ...

Cheers

Thanks for that Rocco . Yeah I had worked out that he could get there via City shuttle and train but reckon that may be to complicated for him at 7 pm .
If any locals want to be entertained for 30 min or so he is a great story teller and would have you laughin all the way . He spent most of his younger years on properties on the Birdsville Track and tells great yarns about it.

Rocco, the cost of the taxi fare wouldn't suprise me. We live in Forrestfield and have copped a $34 bill from the domestic to home. A trip of no more than 15 minutes duration.

Hi

Suggest the safest and most convenient way would be by Taxi (unless someone does volunteer).

According to the Taxi Fare Calculator the fare will be ~$60…but I suppose that’s an estimate…doubt it would crack $100.

With all due respect to the nice people of Armadale I would not send an 80 year old, out of towner, on the train down that way at night time.

Cheers

Why can't whoever he's staying with pick him up?

When he is at the taxi rank at airport get him to ask others in the queue to share a taxi out that way. Bound to be someone heading that way.

Give me the date and flight details and I would be only too happy to pick up your bushie mate and drive him to Armadale. He would be an interesting person to talk to as I have read the Tom Kruse story.Phone me on 0412602140 or email.
