Looking to buy a 2003-05 Jeep Cherokee 3.7 litre, automatic.
Can anyone advise what they are like to tow a small caravan with?
Not looking to circumnavigate Oz just a few short trips etc.
Longest would be Melb to
Brisbane.

Cary W, We are currently in
Darwin, towing a 20ft full van from
Melbourne ,up the East coast to
Cooktown then across the Gulf ,Our 2010 KK 3.7 auto has done it comfortably, cruising close to the 100kph mark, if the jeep your looking at is in fair condition cant see you having too many probs ,Good luck, Bobnrhonda

My Jeep is a lot older than that but as far as a towing "small caravan" any model will do the job just fine. My early XJ and other early models have a tendency to run hot and there are all sorts of things people do to cool them down a bit. Not sure about 2003 model.... probably all solved by then.

Hi, i own a 2003 kj 3.7, had it since 2004 and tow a Cub Camper which weighs about 1100kgs fully laden,i've got a few accessories on it so it not standard, my fuel consumption when touring is about 17litres to 100k but you should be looking at around 14-15 litres.Powers wise you will have no problems( heaps of grunt). If your after fuel economy i'd be looking at a diesel.

Totally underrated though a bit heavy on fuel for its size physicaly , the 2.8lt turbo diesel would use a fair amount less , we get ours [ 05 2.8lt auto ] down to 8lt per 100klm on cruise control at 110klm per hr , Not towing.

You could ask on one of the Jeep Forums.
AusJeepOffroad is possibly your best bet - try the 'garage' for the model you are interested in.
My 2011 3.7 Petrol KK has no trouble with the Tvan, but haven't tried anything heavier yet. Petrol consumption does increase, but driving a little slower will help that.
The owners manual will tell you the towing capacity, and you really don't want to exceed that.
